Nothing Left Now But The Recordings ...

Fyrus - Wheeze

Check back for more random white-label rips as I digitize my 12"s ...

I love this sound; all chunky squarewave bass and angular percussion. Before 'What' dropped you could hear the ghosts of 2-Step still trying to make their presence felt in the drums.

One thing I love about 'Wheeze' and a few other instrumentals from this era, is the emphasis on sustained synth tones and the way frequencies 'beat' against each other over time. Mostly likely due to the 'all digital' production methods used by grime producers - where oscillators can be locked together & tuned against one another in very precise ways.

The whole sound is wonky & there is a real emphasis on melodic pressure - like alot of current 'Bassline 4x4' -

Dr. Venom - Tenacious

Dr. Venom - Horse

Dr.Venom is now the 'front-man' for a pretty awful pop group - I honestly cannot remember what they are called right now - popular in Shoreditch...

His grime tunes tho, and there's more to come, are sicker than equine influenza! These two are off a 12" on Agent X s old grime label Heatseeker Records. Its that sick shit like Slimzee used to play - but more of that later...
